Mesa Verde National Park, CO

Mesa Verde was the home of ancient people from the 6th to 12th centuries.  Around 650, their homes were merely pits in the mesa but by the 1200’s they had moved their homes to the cliffs in the canyon walls and started using masonry to make larger dwellings.  It’s cool to see this evolution in this one place.  It’s an awesome place where you can see how people survived back then.  The cliff dwellings are pretty smart since in the summer it provided shade and in the winter the low sun would also warm up their spaces.  Also props to these people for going  up and down from their homes to the mesa without guardrails like we had.
