White Sands National Monument

White Sands is another surreal place.  Its covered in white gypsum sand dunes.  The dunes move with the wind and cover and uncover desert plants.  The dunes can actually only go to areas with a shallow water table.  The water acts as an anchor.  Many of the animals that live there have evolved to not need to drink any water- they get their water from their food.  It’s a cool place especially during sunset.  The white sand starts looking like snow after awhile.  That day was really windy so we couldn’t really explore too much but we took a nature hike with a ranger.
