REDWOOD NATIONAL PARK – Elk Prairie Campground

Elk Prairie Campground

96% of old-growth redwoods along the Northern California coast have already been logged and almost half of the remaining are protected in this national park. Coast redwoods are related to the sequoias that we just saw last week in central California.  The redwood forest feels more wild and lush.  The silence of the forest is also something to be appreciated.  We would stop during a hike and just listen to the forest.  There were occasional birds, but it was usually oddly quiet.  We are also traveling during the off season so there weren’t too many humans around either.
